We love to celebrate the beauty of older homes while making them more functional for our clients. Recently, we did just that and completed a beautiful addition and renovation for a wonderful family in Guelph.
This multigenerational family was looking to create some extra living space in their 1940s semi, so our team completed a 1200 square foot addition to the side of the home.
The new main floor now houses a new garage, powder room, and additional access to the backyard. The family also used this opportunity to update the kitchen and the flooring in the entire house, which created a sense of continuity throughout.
On the second floor, we built a new office space and a primary bedroom with an ensuite. The suite leads up to the attic level rec room and also includes access to the homeowner’s original primary bedroom. Ease of access to every part of the home will add to the family’s long term enjoyment.
Many hurdles affected the course of the project; not only did the team need to navigate early COVID restrictions, but the 1940s home presented some challenges with obtaining permits because of the existing layout and unique lot lines. It helped immeasurably that the homeowners trusted us to deliver their home despite the nuances of the design process! This relationship of trust is an integral part of the work we do, and we value it highly.
Larry saw this project through from start to finish and tuned into the needs of the homeowners every step of the way. The team not only added additional offices and private spaces for both families, but renovated their existing bathrooms as well.
As a special surprise for our homeowner, we even created a little window seat in the kitchen and a deep orchid sill in the bathroom. She was thrilled with the result. Our team always enjoys finding ways to surprise and delight our homeowners with projects they assumed may not be possible. Putting People First is our philosophy, and we mean it!
As a lovely way to wrap up the project, the neighbour on the other side of the semi asked us to add the same windows and shutters, so the whole home is now transformed and looking beautiful!
