Edenwood Renovation: A Personalized Open-Concept Transformation Waterloo, ON Create a large, multifunctional space that fostered connection, creativity, and community

Two of our favourite homeowners brought us back to their Waterloo home for this second renovation project, to reimagine their choppy, closed-off main floor into a warm, open, and inviting space that reflects their personalities and lifestyle. We build such wonderful relationships with our clients, so it is always exciting and fun when we get to work with someone a second, or third, or fourth time!
Originally characterized by small, segmented rooms, the layout hindered the flow and functionality their lifestyle requires. Their vision was clear: to create a large, multifunctional space that fostered connection, creativity, and community—a perfect hub for entertaining their Sri Lankan-Canadian community and a welcoming heart of the home.
First up, a weight-bearing wall separating the kitchen and family room was removed, requiring careful structural reinforcement. The space was opened to create an expansive, multifunctional area ideal for both intimate family moments and large gatherings of up to 40 guests. Project Key Features
  • Open-Concept Design: The removal of the dividing wall transformed the main floor into a bright, airy space perfect for entertaining and everyday living.
  • Custom Flooring: Supplied by Richcraft Interiors, the walnut flooring meets the tile in the kitchen beautifully, tying the spaces together while balancing aesthetics with durability.
  • Custom Cabinetry: Our partner for this kitchen/living room was Cabinet Effects, and Leti (co-owner and designer) even found the beautiful light fixtures for our client, knowing that they would love them.
  • Bespoke Finishes: High-quality, bespoke details like crown molding that matches the cabinetry and a modern fireplace design from Matthew at Bast Home Comfort add sophistication and cohesion to the design.
  • Kitchen Details: Cambria prefabricated quartz was chosen for the kitchen backsplash, providing a stunning visual anchor which matches the living room fireplace and the centre island countertop.
  • New Views: During our initial planning stage, Art suggested to our client that we replace their three small windows in the kitchen with a large picture window to create an uninterrupted view to the forest beyond. The result is a ton of natural light and a true focal point the homeowners enjoy while working in the kitchen.
  • Technology Integration: Features like a 1 1/2" deep Samsung Frame TV that looks like a picture frame on the wall (pre-loaded with artwork or options to upload your own or subscribe to Samsung's Art Store) and integrated sound systems enhance functionality without compromising style.

We also designed a custom post-and-beam arch with Dave at Pioneer Log Homes and installed it above the front entrance, which helps the home stand out in the neighbourhood and delights our homeowner each time they arrive home.

The highest praise we can receive is to know that our clients truly love their renovation results, and feel that we have represented their personality, style and lifestyle with each decision. This project is a testament to how intentional design and craftsmanship can create a home that is as functional as it is meaningful. If you are considering a home renovation, we would be happy to meet with you. Contact us to get started.
  • Art and Jeremy created more than just a kitchen—they gave us a lifestyle enhancement. This space feels like the heart and soul of our home, and every day I am grateful for the transformation. - Merelle
