Feature Project: Neutral and Natural Kitchen, Staircase & Bathroom Renovation

Millwork by Timber Barn in St. Jacobs

If you’re a lover of neutral decor and natural wood, you’re going to love this month’s feature project. We renovated the kitchen, hallway, staircase and bathroom of this Waterloo Bonavista Drive home in partnership with Timber Barn.

Neutral & natural design elements

Homeowners are getting back to basics and finding ways to bring the outdoors in by using neutral earth tones as their design base. Wood tones are the “new neutral” for those recreating their home’s design and this is exactly where this renovation starts.

White oak cabinetry and maple flooring combine beautifully in this neutral and natural kitchen.

Custom milled by Timber Barn and designed by Jaclyn Becker, this cabinetry is rift-cut white oak and white oak slab veneer doors with 1mm solid oak edging. Drawer fronts cut from the same sheet of material make for perfectly matched grain. The solid wood floors in maple make a stunning base for this neutral and natural design.

The two-tier kitchen island design allows up 6-7 people to sit comfortably around the island making this kitchen family-friendly, welcoming and ideal for dinner parties and entertaining.

The slatted oak feature wall also designed by Jaclyn separates the kitchen from the rest of the main floor and adds another unique and natural element to the renovated space beautifully tying the design together.

Staying true to the neutral design, hexagon tiles from Centura were installed in white and gray and are a gorgeous complement to the wood cabinetry.

Finishing off the neutral and natural design, Caesarstone countertops in concrete colour were installed by Stonex.

A new maple staircase

Clad with maple, this new staircase is as gorgeous as it is durable. We’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Beautiful bathroom updates

After completely demolishing this bathroom we created a full wet room that encloses the tub and shower. The bathroom, also designed by Jaclyn at Timber Barn includes natural walnut vanities with drawers that fit around the plumbing maximizing accessibility and efficiency. The bathroom tiles are from Midgley West’s Denver Stone Collection.

The glass-enclosed wet room includes the tub and shower in one space.
