Behind-the-Scene – North Waterloo Addition

We have been busy this fall with our North Waterloo home addition headed up by Menno Co-Owner/Project Manager Art Janzen. Starting out as a bathroom renovation, due to a leak, this project evolved into a full-blown kitchen addition. Backsplit homes can be tricky to renovate with all of the multiple levels and angles but luckily we have experience working in this home. We completed a basement renovation for them in 2006, and it’s always a pleasure working with repeat clients.

Menno Onsite in Waterloo, Ontario

The new kitchen addition is tucked into the back corner of the home behind the garage.

The perfect spot

It was apparent from day one that the open corner behind the garage would be the perfect spot to push the kitchen out. This area was originally the deck so it was easy for the homeowners to visualize the footprint. To help further bring their visualization to life, we provided 3D renderings of the brand-new floor plan which really got everybody excited.

Such great heights

Doubling the space of the original kitchen and significantly increasing the height, the biggest feature of this home addition is the vaulted ceilings and two Velux Skylights. The homeowners were very keen to have a view of the sky and that’s exactly what they will get every time they spend time in their new kitchen addition.

Working with trusted partners

Each of our projects involve all kinds of professionals to get the job done. For this addition, we worked closely with Lewis Straus Construction to excavate for the foundation which was then formed and poured by Runstedler Concrete. Once we had the structure built we had Mike The Roofer squeeze us in just on time before the snow! Eby Electric Services was brought in to wire the new space to accommodate the new kitchen plan by Chervin Kitchen & Bath who incidentally worked with our fantastic clients on the basement project years prior.

Putting people first

Keeping the job site clean and pristine at the end of each workday is a key priority for our team of skilled trades professionals. Our lead carpenter for this job is Scott, and we have received some really positive feedback from our clients and their neighbours about how neat and tidy the site is left each day. We know a home addition can be a disruptive time for our homeowners, so it’s important for us to show them and their homes the utmost respect while we are onsite.

It has been a real treat working with the homeowners for this North Waterloo addition. They practice putting people first too and set our crew up with delicious coffee in the morning. What a warm welcoming start to the day! We look forward to sharing the ‘after’ photos of this kitchen renovation with you once it’s complete.
