2020 Interior Design Trends We Love

If you are planning a home renovation in Kitchener-Waterloo this year, here are the 2020 interior design trends we are most excited about. Would you incorporate any of these into your plans?

Even if you aren’t doing any major projects around the house, many of these 2020 trends can be woven into your current decor plan easily, and at a myriad of price points.

#1 SHOPPING RESPONSIBLY AND SUSTAINABLY

You’ll have noticed that fast fashion has been under heavy discussion lately, and being conscious of how we buy also means extends to the home. Happily, truly beautiful pieces are always in style, and right now we are seeing a resurgence of many iconic silhouettes, patterns and materials. Plus, vintage often means you pay less. Big win for everyone.

In Waterloo Region, we have many great resources for both sustainable pieces and thrifted goodness. Here are 5 suggestions, but there are so many more:

Thrift on Kent
St. Jacob’s Antique Market
Aberfoyle Antique Market
Square Table Round Bowl
Lemon Tree Market

#2 CRITTALL STYLE WINDOWS AND DOORS

We’re not sorry this is a budding trend, these doors and windows are stunners! In 2020, you’ll be seeing them used not just as windows and doors, but also for extensions, room dividers and even shower screens (paired with white subway tile and dark grout? Yes, please!).

#3 NON-WHITE KITCHENS

We are already seeing an uptick in natural wood cabinets, islands, and shelves, light painted cabinets and even mismatched, modular pieces in our clients’ kitchens — all of which allow homeowners to keep a bright and light feeling without restricting themselves to all-white-everything.

#4 KITCHEN ART

Go beyond the oversized cutlery or posters of French cafes and bring art, real artwork into a room you spend an awful lot of time in. Beauty and inspiration belong in every room! We are so ready to see clients embrace this timeless trend. How about you?

#5 RATTAN AND WICKER

As thrifting and antiquing comes back into fashion, it is no wonder that these two light and airy materials are having a moment. A great way to bring that sense of the outdoors in, a rattan side table or magazine holder, or a wicker rocking chair with a bold print might be just what your living room needs.
